Where contractual arbitration (arbitrato irrituale) is conducted by tribunals of mixed composition and a direct reference to professional legal fee schedules is not possible, the arbitrators' remuneration must be determined on an equitable basis pursuant to Articles 1709, 2225 and 2233 of the Civil Code, having regard to the value and nature of the matter, the number and importance of the issues addressed, the quality of the work performed and the time expended.
Irrespective of the validity or effectiveness of the awards rendered, arbitrators are entitled to remuneration for the work performed.
